Quote:
Some interesting news revealed at the recent Games Workshop Games Day, looks like a full length CG movie, based on the Warhammer 40,00 IP, is being worked on and is going through Games Workshop's approval process.

It's based on the Ultramarines, which is no surprise since (a) The Space Marines are the poster boys of the IP and (b) the Ultra Marines are the poster boys of the Space Marines.

There are many that are moaning, since Space Marines are somewhat over represented in the IP (and there are many other interesting races), and most Space Marine fans are... well... comparable to twilight fans.

This will mark the fourth 40k movie adaptation attempt, the other two only reaching as far as releasing a trailer before Games Workshop pulled the plug, the other being a b-grade fan-made production supported by Games Workshop.

The CG will be done by the Codex Pictures studio, apparently the guys who worked on all the Bionicle CG, so they have a lot to prove. It will also be a straight to DVD production, which is unsurprising considering how there isn't nearly enough brand awareness to even begin warranting a cinema showing.

I think we all know how badly this could fail. But I'd like to see it succeed, because it would be sweet to see some marines kicking ass and taking names for the emperor.

My only issue would be if they don't make the movie GRIMDARK enough. I know Ultramarines are the (literal) boys in blue of the Imperium, but the Imperium is not a nice place. Its going to be arb if they try make it too glorious.

hell yes i'd like to see this work... think of an entire movie that looks like the brutal intro movies to the Dawn of War collection...

all there needs to be is at least one chainswording and i think i'll approve... (or a good flame thrower) (or dreadnaut fistings)
this is just to add to the fact that this BETTER be grim and dark...
also, the bionicle movie's didn't look terrible at least, so it's not a lazy studio

oh, and the space marines better sound like british thugs most of the time or i don't approve! SHouting FOR THE EMPRAAH!! in an american accent loses it's power!

I'm stoked. Finally, a 40K movie in dazzling CGI.. *mumbles something in praise of impending Warcraft Movie Very Happy*

But yes.. Incredible potential to succeed or fail is definitely present.
I feel all too similar about Diablo III, which I at one stage felt looked way too happy and welcoming. I suppose time will ultimately tell if they both either live up to their respective context or perish in a shower of flamewarz.

Hopefully it's got much the same feel to it as the "Inquisitor" series - Jaq Draco and Meh'lindi and the rest of that gang got the "feel" just right.

Must try get hold of that omnibus again...

On the 40k note, how many takers are there around for gaming? I have over 3000 points worth of marines here... (OK, so most are in need of repainting after I dunked 'em in dettol, but hey)

~1k Space Wolves, ~1k Eldar, ~400 of Tau.

I might start collecting again this year, but I have a student loan to pay off too.
